Safety with a 9 year old in University City
Age changes the answer more than anything else, so this one is written for a specific one.
On the ice, the rules that matter are the ordinary ones: stay off the ice with the cars, keep away from other skaters, and warm hands make better decisions than cold ones.
The drive back to University City is where you find out what they actually thought. Children review an outing about twenty minutes after leaving it, never during.
How it lands at this age
The centre states that the safety of its young guests is its first priority and that the environment is controlled and supervised. Follow whatever the staff ask on the day - they can see the room.
Take the phone out of your pocket before they start rather than after. The moment worth filming is usually the first one.
What to plan for
Safety at a children attraction is mostly about the boring things being right: slow machines, a supervised room and staff who say something before a child does anything unsafe.
Parents keep the last word. Nobody knows what a particular child will try next better than the adult standing next to them.

Weekday afternoons in term time are the quietest slot in the week. Weekend middays are the busiest.

Questions parents ask
Is it supervised?
The centre describes a safe, controlled and supervised environment. Staff instructions on the day come first.
Are the machines fast?
They move slowly and only when a child moves the control.

Planning your visit in University City
Plenty of the families in the room on a weekday morning have come from somewhere like University City. Nobody is local to a mall attraction; everybody has driven.
Bring less than you think. Coats and bags are the part of the visit nobody enjoys managing.
If two adults are coming, split up rather than shadowing the same child. One at the rail, one free, and everybody has a better hour.
Weekends bring more of University City out at once. If the schedule allows a weekday, take it; the same visit is quieter and the machines wait for nobody in particular.
